Below is a small explanation on the two key global references for Water Safety Plans:

  • The third edition of WHO’s Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality provided a seperate chapter
    on Water Safety Plan in which it suggests using a comprehensive risk assessment and risk
    management approach in ensuring the safety of a drinking water supply.
  • The IWA Bonn charter for Drinking Water provides a framework outlining the institutional, managerial
    and operational requirements for the effective provision of safe drinking water. Water safety plans 
    are a key element of this.

  • Household Water Treatment and Storage Network
    The Network aims to contribute to a significant reduction in waterborne disease, especially among vulnerable populations, by promoting household water treatment and safe storage as a key component of water, sanitation and hygiene programmes. The Network will accomplish this mission through advocacy, communication, research and implementation. Specific activities of the Network and its members will evolve over time, based on continuing research, experience and lessons learned.
  • Malaysian Water Association
    MWA is a platform for efforts towards bringing about enhancement of the knowledge and skills of its members while at the same time for promoting awareness of water issues among the public. Together with this, public interests and environmental concerns are also promoted.
  • National Water Services Commission (SPAN) Malaysia
    The National Water Services Commission regulates the Malaysian water services industry through fair, effective and transparent implementation of Water Services Industry Act. 
  • Operation and Maintenance Network
    The Operation and Maintenance Network (OMN) aims to improve information and expertise exchange on the critical subject of operation and maintenance of water supply and sanitation systems.  The Network's tools, knowledge and other services are focused on the situation in low and middle income countries.
  • WaterLinks
    Waterlinks is a regional network that supports Water Operator Partnerships (WOPs) between water and waste water operators in Asia to promote improved access to safe water and basic sanitation
  • SAWUN
    The South Asian Water Utilities Network (SAWUN) is a new organization of water utilities in South Asia whose vision is to measurably improve their performance in the delivery of water supply and sanitation services to meet Target 10 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
  • SEAWUN
    The Southeast Asian Water Utilities Network (SEAWUN) is a regional network of water utilities from Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The network provides its members with a framework for developing their capacity and expanding their knowledge through training programs, structured learning from peers, and exchange of information and experiences.
  • Small Community Water Supply Network
    The International Small Community Water Supply Network was formed to promote the achievement of substantive and sustainable improvements to the safety of small community water supplies around the world, particularly in rural areas, as a contribution to the Millennium Development Goal drinking-water target.
